    We are currently looking for a Patent Attorney to be located in our Lincolnshire, IL Facility.

    Responsibilities

    The Patent Attorney is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and protecting patentable and strategic inventions and minimizing the risk that the Company’s inventions and intellectual property infringe on the intellectual property rights of others. This position will work with the product development team in a dynamic, growth‐oriented environment and collaborate with other in‐house and outside attorneys to review, draft, and coordinate intellectual property documentation and related agreements.

    1. Provide advice during the design process on existing patents and ability to develop new products.
    2. Work closely with engineers to identify patentable technology, suggest courses of action to best protect proprietary technology, and drive the process for new patent applications.
    3. Work with outside counsel and foreign associates to prepare and prosecute patent applications, and as needed, independently prepare and prosecute U.S. patent applications.
    4. Structure and negotiate patent licenses and intellectual property agreements.
    5. Provide legal advice and opinions on patentability of inventions, validity of patents, and patent infringement.
    6. Manage intellectual property appeals and interference proceedings, as necessary.
    7. Assist with the analysis of patent office actions, gather relevant data and information, and assist with the drafting of responses to those actions that result in allowance of important claims.
    8. Manage individual docket of patent applications, assisting in docket reviews, and providing recommendations regarding patent maintenance and foreign filing decisions.
    9. Provide instructions to foreign associates on prosecuting applications globally.
    10. Develop intellectual property policy and procedure, and train internal customers on process and related risk management.
    11. Conduct prior art searches and monitor patent activity for various product lines.
    12. Track intellectual property related projects and manage timelines as appropriate. Keep leadership apprised of progress.
    13. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Must be a member of the Illinois State Bar in good standing or qualified to obtain either Admission on Motion pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705 or Limited Admission of House Counsel pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 716.

     

    An active registration with the United States Patent Office is preferred, and a minimum of seven 7﴿

    years of applicable intellectual property legal experience at an outside firm or as in‐house counsel is required.

     

    JD from an accredited law school and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required. Two years of working with a manufacturing company is preferred. Experience with a number of patent and publication search tools and methods.

     

    Strong written and verbal communication skills. Service‐oriented focus with ability to work as part of cross‐functional teams and drive results. Highest integrity, excellent judgment and the ability to pro‐actively recognize and effectively communicate legal issues to engineers and management.
